I dont speak of my beliefs too often but I will say that I do believe in God and in Jesus Christ. My beliefs probably have a lot to do with what I do. That said, it is my belief that as Christians, we are supposed to help people regardless of who they are and without expecting ANYTHING in return and without an agenda OTHER than to actually HELP! That includes forcing religion onto anyone. The homeless shelter here in petoskey is run by the church. Thats great. However, maybe it should start acting like it. I can completely understand having rules, but rules that HELP, not hinder. Number one, they FORCE church and bible study onto you. It doesnt M
ATTER what YOU believe in, if you stay there, you HAVE to go to church and bible study. I can understand OFFERING these services but not forcing them onto someone. We are supposed to bring people to God by example, NOT FORCE. Second, you have to be back to the shelter by 6pm at the latest or you get kicked out. Even if you have a job and they tell you you have to stay late, the homeless shelter will kick you out. After 7pm you are not allowed to leave the porch. if you even step onto the sidewalk you can be kicked out. They do NOT allow you to choose the meals but you are expected to cook them. You have to be in bed and cell phones shut off by 10pm. The JAIL doesnt shut the lights out untill 11. OH, and here is a good one. The church is supposed to be about FAMILY. However, if you are a married couple who is homeless, dont expect to see each other. The men have to stay in the mens house and the women in the womens house. ok. I can understand that, BUT, remember that 7pm rule, yeah, even though the two houses are right next door and you two are married, there is NO CONTACT after 6. so if even one of you works during the day, you will not be able to see eachother. I thaught that the homeless shelter was to make things better not worse. I mean, seriously, your allready homeless, NOW you cant even spend a few minutes with your spouse or you risk getting kicked out?! Especially with it being church run, it seems as though they would focus on keeping famillies together. And lets not forget that if you are dissabled as in needing a whellchair, they will not take you. They will ship you to gaylord! Why? Because they dont have a ramp and are NOT willing to put one in. Even if the money was donated, they refuse to do so. So much for them wanting to help. They run the place like a prison and FORCE yo to believe as they do and if your dissabled, well, hope you dont have familly or work in the area, otherwise, its gone or your sleeping on the streets! THINGS NEED TO CHANGE PEOPLE!! Get involved! People NEED help and those that are supposed to be helping, well, it seems they have another agenda and its NOT for your good.
